Course Details
Training Course Schedule
The initial orientation is at 7 pm
on the Sunday evening the day BEFORE the course starting date.
It is followed by a welcome dinner offered by TEFL Paris to all
trainees.
The first class will take place in the morning at 9:00 a.m. The
course schedule for the week will be provided on arrival
morning. Sessions generally run between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
with appropriate breaks. Teaching Practice is often in the late
afternoons and evenings.
Trainees are expected to attend all input and other sessions
included on the schedule unless they are sick and require
medical treatment. This is particularly important for Teaching
Practice.
Resources
Please bring a pen and a notebook for taking notes during class.
All relevant forms and instructions will be provided, as well as
notes from the input sessions.
You may want to bring an mp3 player with you, especially one
which records.
If you have a laptop you may find it useful as the
school is equipped with WIFI.
Various books are provided for use by trainees. However, no
books should be removed from the classroom without specific
permission from the Course Academic Director. Inventory of all
books will be conducted at the end of the course to ensure that
no books have been accidentally removed.
You will be required to prepare materials for your Teaching
Practice.
The school keeps an initial supply of basic tools necessary to
make student materials. However, the trainees are responsible
for providing additional poster board, markers, glue, pens,
paper, etc., for creating teaching materials. These can be
purchased at a local stationery store.
Trainee Course Feedback Sessions
There will be two trainee feedback sessions. The first will be
in the middle of week 2 and the second will be at the end of the
course. These sessions are aimed to give trainees the
opportunity to provide feedback regarding anything to do with
the course, accommodations, and so on. We welcome your open and
honest feedback so we can continue to improve the training
course and the facilities provided at the training location.
Even though there are two scheduled feedback sessions, please
feel free to give feedback to the Course Director or the
Academic Director at any time.
Accommodation Details
We can offer some on-site accommodation and you will need to book it when you register for the course. It is available starting on the day before the course begins around tea time through to the last day of the final week.
Transportation upon Arrival
Most people will arrive in France at Roissy Charles De Gaulle airport (north of Paris), at Orly airport (south of Paris) or at Beauvais airport. Those coming from the UK via Eurostar will arrive at Gare du Nord.
| ◊ | Roissy -
Charles De Gaulle airport
From Charles de Gaulle, take the train, RER B, direction Saint Rémi les Chevreuses and get off at Gare du Nord. Then, in the same station, take the RER E train to Tournan- en-Brie (it is the last stop). It is then five minutes walk to the school (see the map). |
| ◊ | Orly airport From the airport, take the RER B (Orlyval) to Gare du Nord. Then, the RER E to Tournan in the same station. |
| ◊ | Beauvais
airport If your flight arrives at Beauvais you can take a bus to Paris Porte Maillot (the bus leaves Beauvais 15 to 30 minutes after your arrival and costs 10 euros). Then, take the metro to Gare du Nord where you will find the RER E to Tournan. |
| ◊ | Eurostar -
Gare du Nord You will arrive at the Gare du Nord station in the north of Paris. Just go to the suburban lines area and take the RER E to Tournan. See the RATP site for details. |
Important Note: Please let us know when you are arriving, so that we can prepare accordingly. The first event is the Welcome Dinner on the Sunday evening before the course starts, and this is one of the highlights of the course. This relaxed evening lets everyone get to know each other in a friendly and relaxed setting
Course Policy
Dress Requirements
For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location,
there are no specific dress requirements, yet we ask that you be
mindful of your peers and respectful of the fact that you are a
visitor in another country. French peoples are quite mindful of
dressing codes.
During Teaching Practice, however, there are specific dress
requirements that adhere to the local working culture and basic
ideas of professionalism. All trainees are expected to dress
“casually smart” like one would dress to a casual business
meeting.
Smoking and Drinking Policy
Smoking is allowed in certain designated areas. Public intoxication at the school will not be tolerated. Social drinking is allowed.
Problems and Complaints
We generally feel that, as adults, the best way to resolve
problems is to deal directly with those with whom you have the
problem. If you do not feel that you can do this, or you have
tried to resolve the problem without success, please bring the
problem to the Centre Manager Agnès de Labrusse.
If any trainee has a personal problem, which may interfere with
course studies, please talk to one of the trainers.
If you want to complain or… praise the quality of the course you
can contact IATQuO.
Health Insurance
Before you come to France, check whether your country has a
reciprocal health care agreement with France. Otherwise, make
sure your health insurance will cover your costs outside of your
own country, or purchase medical travel insurance from your
travel agent.
For EU nationals, presentation of a valid Form E 111, entitles
you to reduced-cost emergency treatment. Full travel insurance
is strongly recommended.
Local Weather Conditions
Paris has a mild climate. It rarely exceeds 35°C degrees in the summer and rarely below 0°C degrees in the winter. Yet a pair of Wellingtons could prove very useful in Autumn and in Winter if you want to stroll in the park of the centre.
Get Acquainted
Before your arrival, we highly recommend you purchase a
descriptive guidebook or do some online research to familiarise
yourself and get acquainted with France and all it has to offer.
For more information on France and Paris, we recommend The
Lonely Planet France and the
Lonely Planet Paris pages, and the French Transport sites
RATP and
SNCF.
